City Of Damascus - What's Hot : Draft Comp Plan

The City of Damascus conducted a Community Design Workshop, October 21-23, 2008. The workshop included urban designers developing a long range land use map for the city. The design work built upon several years of community public involvement, including the Damascus Boring Concept Plan, City of Damascus coffee klatches, summer socials, Core Values and subarea planning meetings. The Community Coordination Committee (C3), Topic Specific Teams and the City Council conducted focused work to review a suitability analysis and opportunities and constraints map. The Draft Comprehensive Plan map provides guidance for long-range land uses for the City, which will eventually be refined into a zoning map in 2009. The Zoning Map and Development Code will provide property specific regulations for future development of private property in Damascus. (See the Draft Comprehensive map's Graphic Legend.)

The Community Design Workshop also provided an Aspirational Map, which shows areas that the community may want to take steps to realize this future. Key elements include a City Center concept north of Highway 212 near 232nd Drive, parks and trail systems, conservation areas, recommendations for new roads, transit, an agricultural overlay and ecosystem services approach to public facilities.

Next steps will include City Council and C3 review, and subarea meetings for review Winter 2009. Subarea open house dates will be held on the following dates and locations from 6 - 8 PM:
